About the project
The Temora Health Service redevelopment will provide a contemporary health facility with high quality healthcare services. The design is carefully planned to meet community needs now and into the future.
Consultation for master planning is complete with concept and schematic design to continue throughout 2024. Community engagement will continue with the local community, stakeholders, and staff to ensure the hospital design is a safe and welcoming environment for all who visit.
Design phase
Building hospitals and healthcare facilities is a complex operation involving three key phases – planning, design and delivery. Each development is tailored to a community’s unique health needs and long-term health requirements.
The project is currently in the design stage.
- Note - The Clinical Service Plan is developed based on information, future projections, and health standards as of June 2022 and may be subject to change.
Project Information
The release of the concept design is an exciting stage for the redevelopment and the Temora community is encouraged to come along to a series of information sessions where they can speak with the project team and provide feedback.
The new Temora Health Service will continue to provide emergency department services, as well as modern inpatient accommodation with beds available for medical, surgical, rehabilitation, palliative care and maternity patients.
Other facilities and services to be delivered include perioperative facilities for surgery and procedures, community and allied health, ambulatory clinics, and pathology. Medical imaging facilities will also be enhanced.
Improved car parking for patients, staff and visitors, as well as separate emergency and service vehicle entry are also included as part of the design.
The hospital redevelopment will be located on the existing site, retaining and maximising its position overlooking Temora township.
Light-filled spaces as well as direct views to the hospital’s beautiful gardens are also proposed as part of the project to create a welcoming and supportive environment for patients, visitors and staff.

Construction of the redevelopment is expected to start in 2025.
The project team is seeking interest from community and staff representatives who may wish to be a part of the group which will discuss opportunities, and provide input, into the strategy for landscaping the hospital’s grounds and outdoor spaces.
This is a way to improve the health and wellbeing of consumers, staff, and visitors, by supporting connections between the outdoors and the new hospital.
Successful applicants will initially be required to attend three meetings which will run for approximately 1.5 hours each.
Expressions of Interest closed on 18 September 2023.
An Arts Working Group was established to identify opportunities to include art in all its forms in the new hospital. The Arts in Health initiative is one way to improve health and wellbeing, support cultural connections to the new hospital and create a welcoming environment.
The Arts Working Group is responsible for advocating the successful integration of arts for wellbeing, inclusive of heritage elements into the Temora Health Service Redevelopment project.Members of the Temora and district community and staff were invited to join.
Expressions of interest closed on 18 August 2023.
The Temora Health Service Redevelopment project team undertook master plan community consultation in July 2023. Over 70 people engaged with the project team through:
- online and face-to-face briefings
- drop-in information sessions with Temora Health Service staff
- through the Temora and Ariah Park communities
- Local Health Advisory Committee
- general practitioners
- Temora Shire Council.
The community was also encouraged to complete the online survey and to provide feedback to the project team via the dedicated project phone and email address.
The master plan outlined the vision for the redevelopment which is a new hospital and staff accommodation built on the site of the existing Temora Hospital which will enhance health services and facilities for residents of the Temora region.
Following master planning consultation, the project team has collated all feedback from staff and community. This important feedback is being used to inform the planning and design process as the project transitions into the concept design phase.

Consultation for the concept and schematic design will continue throughout the design process in 2024. Engagement will continue with the local community, stakeholders, and staff to ensure the hospital design is a safe and welcoming environment for all who visit.
Community information sessions were held in Temora on Wednesday, 30 November 2022. Many community members, consumers and staff called in to chat with the Project Team and learn more about what’s involved in delivering a redeveloped hospital for Temora.
